How did I become a Technical Artist?
I never had the intention of becoming or being a Technical Artist. I don't even do that as a profession. All I wanted to do was draw and that became an endeavor to make animation with computers. When I look back at what I have done I spent a lot of time alone working with computers and I was happy about doing that. If I can keep being creative that's all I wanted. At the end of the day my sketchbook, computers, and ideas are always going to be there.
I've thought about going to school for Studio Art or something related to animation but it was always pushed as an after thought because my reality was that I was already doing that on my own. I didn't need a school to tell me I can do what I want to do. It was like a bug that bit me and I couldn't shake it off. That turned into years of work.
Why wait for something to happen when you can do it now?
Do you want to walk around in misery until you figure out what you want? Are you hoping for something? Do you want to know the answer? Are you in despair?
There's always something in the way blocking your path whether it's a job, time, SAT/ACT, grades, skill, talent, switching majors, money, anxiety, relationships, etc. What I've learned as a student studying Computer Science is that if you really want to do something you have to solve one problem at a time no matter how big the problem is. If you give up when it becomes difficult then it's not for you. There are people who will tell you to do something else because of the path to "Success". You want to increase the chances of you being successful so when it becomes difficult you look the other way.
What about that thing you wanna do that you're scared of?
Being Self-Taught. What does it mean?
Being self-taught is a weird thing to say because you learn from interacting the world around you. People, youtube, talking, listening, watching, trying and failing. You don't just become that thing you want to be. It's the pursuit of who we want to be that makes us different. Self-taught means you are willing to seek out knowledge and learn something without the aid of school. That knowledge can be gained by reading books, learning from others, and experience. You're free to learn how you want at your own pace and there's no limit on what you can achieve.
Who came before me
I'm not the only crayon in the box. M dot Strange is a film maker, game developer, author, programmer, illustrator, and musician. He is know by the term Uberector (a one person independent film maker/director) and has done many feature films including "We are the strange", "Heart String Marionette", "I am nightmare" and games "FACE together FACE", "Flip n Chop", ""Magnet Droid", "The bad platform" and more.
The wEiRd ones...why we are different.
We look at the world differently than others and that's no secret. People like people who are like themselves or have similar interests. Weird people don't care about that. If you're not like me then you must be weird, and that's interesting. Tell me more.
