I've looked at and worked with polygon hair strands and now I'm working with Blenders hair particle hair system. It's a different approach to making hair and it's closer to real hair.
The question is whether to design a hair mesh with this system due to rendering power and costs. If characters have hair particles then I need more graphics power and more time to render. But it doesn't hurt to try. I'm using Cycles Engine instead of Evee. I like the traditional approach to rendering. I would like to move back to using MODO for animation and rendering but that will come at a later time.
Ok so what am I looking at? This is a sphere with hair particles. What you're looking at is a close up of hair follicles. You can't see the final result unless you click RENDER. So it will look different in the 3D viewport.
I will get back to this. Last edit: 7/9/2020
